We're fascinated by the darker side of things, having digested films like Michael Haneke’s Funny Games for months. His latest film Das Weisse Band (The White Ribbon) won the Palm d’Or last May at Cannes. ‘Nuff said. Now this week the New Yorker interview with the director notes this is “Haneke’s most approachable film, though you approach it at your peril, as you would a hot stove. It is also his longest, his most beautiful—the only one in black-and-white—and his best.”
Das Weisse Band shows at the upcoming New York Film Festival on October 7th and 8th. then releases in December.
